YPSILANTI, Mich.- The 15th-ranked UIndy baseball team punched its ticket to the NCAA Division II Championship Sunday with a 9-6, extra inning victory against Rockhurst in the Midwest Regional final. The comeback win gave the Greyhounds (46-14) their first regional crown in 12 years. Down 4-1 through four innings, the Greyhounds rebounded to earn a 6-4 edge heading into the bottom of the ninth, but Rockhurst third baseman/pitcher Josh Samuelson notched a clutch two-out double to tie the game and forced extras.

The Great Lakes Valley Conference was well-represented this past week at the NCAA Division II Spring National Championships Festival in Louisville, Ky. The festival, which featured national championship competition for men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis, softball, and women's lacrosse, took place May 15-19 at a number of venues and was co-hosted by our very own Bellarmine University. Congratulations to the Drury's men's and women's tennis teams along with senior women's golfer Katrina Choate, the Indianapolis men's and women's golf teams, Lewis women's tennis, Northern Kentucky men's tennis, and Saint Joseph's softball, on the completion of your seasons!

After starting the day with a 21-14 shootout loss to Indianapolis, Rockhurst has earned a rematch with the Greyhounds following a 10-5 elimination win over Grand Valley State. The Hawks will now have to defeat UIndy twice on Sunday for the 2012 NCAA Midwest Regional title and a trip to the NCAA Division II College World Series.

Indianapolis and Rockhurst remain the lone unbeaten teams at the NCAA Baseball Midwest Regional. The Greyhounds eliminated Wayne State 8-5 on Friday, while the Hawks gave third-seeded Northern Kentucky a 6-1 defeat and dropped the Norse to the elimination bracket. In other action, Lewis was eliminated by Grand Valley State by a 9-5 count.

INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Lakes Valley Conference announced Friday that 11 teams have been named recipients of the GLVC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Sportsmanship Award for the spring season. The 11 squads, which include the Bellarmine men’s tennis and outdoor track and field teams, Missouri-St. Louis men’s and women’s golf squads, Northern Kentucky men’s golf and baseball teams, Quincy’s men’s tennis team, Southern Indiana’s women’s tennis team, UW-Parkside’s softball and men’s outdoor track and field teams, and the William Jewell outdoor track and field squad, were selected by their peers as best displaying ‘Good Sportsmanship’ during the 2011-12 spring season. This is the first time in the history of the award that three sports have garnered ties in the voting process.

INDIANAPOLIS – For the fifth straight season and the final time as a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, Northern Kentucky University has claimed the GLVC Commissioner’s Cup. The Norse athletic department earned the award for the 2011-12 season by posting the strongest finish in the league’s seven core sports.

INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis has claimed the Great Lakes Valley Conference All-Sports Trophy for the 2011-12 academic year. The Greyhounds totaled 167.5 year-end points, which gave them an 11.5-point victory over runner-up Northern Kentucky. This year’s title is UIndy’s third All-Sports crown in school history and first since 2002-03.

EVANSVILLE, Ind.– The Great Lakes Valley Conference announced Wednesday that Kentucky Wesleyan College senior centerfielder Jordan White has been named the 2012 GLVC Player of the Year for baseball. White was selected by the conference coaches and recognized for his efforts at an awards banquet that preceded the 2012 GLVC Baseball Championship Tournament, which begins on Thursday in Evansville, Ind. In addition to White, University of Indianapolis’ Donovan Drake and Gary Vaught were named the GLVC Pitcher and Coach of the Year, respectively, while Maryville redshirt freshman outfielder Andrew Naegeli was tabbed as the league’s Freshman of the Year. A total of 67 student-athletes from both the GLVC East and West Divisions were also recognized as All-Conference honorees.

A total of 19 GLVC players earned 33 All-Midwest Region honors, including UIndy’s Casey Williamson and Jennifer DeMotte adding to their GLVC Player and Pitcher of the Year honors as the Daktronics Midwest Regional Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively.
